The problem with most music nowadays is the mere fact that it's something you heard. Thousands of bands all trying to do something that's been done, re-do what was good, or invent some new gimick to make a buck. Don't get me wrong, stuff on the radio isn't bad just because it's on the radio, but I've been wondering, is it possible to be a pure musician? The closest thing I can think of would be the Gorillas (or however they spell it) because they really don't do a lot for their face time. Even then there's some degree of fame that is sought after. Everyone is in it for something, even if they think they're not. I've never heard any serious musician say "I want to make just enough to make it to the next gig, touch people with my songs, and then go to the next gig."

I personally love music so much, it's part of everyday life to play and think musically, to create the best melody for my emotion, to let the strings do the talking is sometimes necessary. I know that almost everyone I've ever heard on the radio felt that for some brief period of time, even if it only lasted long enough to get the ball rolling. What happens after is a very sneaky and unavoidable force that creeps that seeks recognition and fame. At this point playing music to pay the bills becomes business with a plan and a vision instead of just music, so I wonder, are there any pure musicians out there? Anyone who really just loves what they do so much they leave it at that? Who would be just as content to play for an audience of none as to have a smash hit number one single?

I don't know, but the best musicians of all time have came and went because there's almost no need for that great of creativity if you can sell ya know? It is so seldom that the love of music gets through to popularity. Most often, people are trying to imitate what they already know in their own way without stopping to think that the reason they love what they are trying to reproduce is because it was born out of some drive, some passion that formed it. if people love music so much, why are they self-seeking with it? Why can't it just be for their own enjoyment that they've made something that really says what they couldn't say another way? Why do some people wait for 'the right time' to release their stuff? Is that how we show love for anything else? that ain't love as far as I know.

Anyway, it's pretty thought provoking stuff whenever a new act comes on. The process of fame and 'selling out' is nearly universal in some way shape or form, but even in the midst of that thoughts and words can come through unfiltered enough to touch us so deeply we are left changed forever. It IS possible today, just rare. As for me, I'll stick to buying the albums I really love (comes out to about one every 1.5 yrs.) and hope that soon we'll demand that music be made pure and meaningful again.
